Subclass 482 visa

The Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa (subclass 482) allows employers to sponsor skilled workers from overseas to fill temporary skill shortages in Australia. There are two streams under which you can apply for a TSS visa:

•           Short-term stream: This stream is for occupations that are on the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL). The maximum stay on a short-term TSS visa is 4 years.

•           Medium-term stream: This stream is for occupations that are on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL). The maximum stay on a medium-term TSS visa is 4 years.

The eligibility requirements for a TSS visa are:

•           You must be nominated by an eligible employer.

•           You must have the skills and experience required for the nominated occupation.

•           You must meet the English language requirements.

•           You must meet the health requirements for entry to Australia.

•           You must not be a danger to the Australian community

•           For certain occupations, you may need to have a positive skill Assessment

Subclass 186 Visa

The Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) visa allows skilled workers to be sponsored by an Australian employer to live and work permanently in Australia. There are two streams under which you can apply for a subclass 186 visa:

  • Direct Entry stream: This stream is for skilled workers who have at least 3 years of relevant work experience in an occupation that is on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL).
  • Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) stream: This stream is for skilled workers who have held a subclass 457, 482 or related Bridging visa A, B or C for at least 3 years and have been nominated by an Australian employer whose nomination was approved in the 6 months before you apply.

The eligibility requirements for a subclass 186 visa are:

  • You must be nominated by an eligible employer.
  • You must have the skills and experience required for the nominated occupation.
  • You must meet the English language requirements.
  • You must meet the health requirements for entry to Australia.
  • You must not be a danger to the Australian community.
  • You must be under 45 years of age (unless you are exempt).

In addition to the general eligibility requirements, there are also some specific requirements that you may need to meet, depending on your individual circumstances.   

For example, if you are applying for the Direct Entry stream, you may need to have a skills assessment.

Subclass 494 visa 

Here are the requirements for the Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 494):

Occupation: Your nominated occupation must be on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) or the Regional Occupations List (ROL).

Work experience: You must have at least 3 years of relevant work experience in your nominated occupation.

Skills assessment: You must have a positive skills assessment for your nominated occupation.

Nomination: You must be nominated by an eligible employer in a designated regional area of Australia.

English language: You must meet the English language requirements.

Health and character: You must meet the health and character requirements for entry to Australia.

Age: You must be under 45 years of age unless you are exempt.
